Griffin's Blessing

We had such a wonderful day today. We blessed Griffin and we were able to have so many members of our family there for it. It was wonderful! We went to sacrament meeting, then went over to my parents' house for a brunch. It was so nice to see some family we hadn't seen for a while and to just relax and enjoy the company. A lot of David's family was able to be there as well, which was so nice. I don't get to see them nearly as much as I'd like.

Xander and Maxton have both had colds lately. They had so much fun today, but they were both a little cranky. I snapped this photo of Maxton when I was trying to get a good one of Griffin in his little blessing suit. This is so Maxton's grumpy face. He makes really good grumpy faces.

And here are a few of Griffin from today.

One of 128 photos I took today of Griffin. Didn't get a single one I really loved, but there are a few I like, so oh well.

Oh, and a funny Xander story. We were telling him all the people that he was going to see today, and I said, "And your great-grandma Cowley" and Xander said, "My great big Cowley?" Oh my gosh, we just about died laughing, because we knew how much my grandma would love that story! I'm sure it will be in her repertoire of stories for years. When we told her, she said, "Take off the -ley and that would be about it." She's always making fun of her weight and I think she told that story to almost everyone she could find at the brunch.

Getting bigger

Griffin is getting so big! At his two week appointment he was 8 lbs. 10 oz. Yesterday we went to a WIC appointment and he was 8 lbs. 14 oz. He's just putting on weight and filling out.

First bath and perfect timing

We gave Griffin his first real bath today. He might have had a good one in the hospital, but I didn't see it, so it doesn't count. He cried most of the time, but not at his loudest volume (which I've only heard a few times). He's starting to make cute little baby noises and to really look at you, which is so fun. He's such a little sweetie.

I have to laugh at him a little though. He might grow up to be a comedian, because he already has great timing. We've had to wash our sheets several times because he poops while we are changing him. And we've tried to learn. Yesterday David was being super careful, and he still managed to get the sheets. Today I was changing him, and being careful. He started to poop mid-change, and I thought, "Ha, the diaper's still under him." Nope, somehow he managed to get enough distance to overshoot the diaper! Dirty sheets again. I guess we need to start changing him on the changing table or get one of those portable changing pads that come with diaper bags. But so far, no fountains.

We went to the park today with Melissa, Hyrum, Madolin and Grandma. The boys had so much fun on the swings. Grandma put them on the regular swings, since the baby ones were occupied and I was so worried one of them would let go and face plant in the wood chips, but they did really well. No accidents, hurray! We had a lot of fun, but it's going to be a challenge to convince Xander he has to walk now, instead of getting a ride in our double stroller.

Just posting a quick photo

Just thought I'd post this photo while I had a second. I love those newborn wrinkles! He's starting to loose them a little already.

Some new mommy thoughts

I'd forgotten exactly what it was like to have a newborn. I think I"m enjoying it a lot more than I did with Xander and Maxton. With Xander, I just wanted him to get older so we could interact more and with Maxton, I think I was just too busy with Xander just being over a year old to really enjoy him. Griffin though I'm just trying to enjoy every moment and take it easy. David is being so sweet with him too. We've never had the boys sleep with us, because it bothers David too much (actually a Queen is a little small for even just the two of us), but the first night Griffin was home, David actually went and got him and slept with him on his side, something that has never happened before! He said it just seemed sad for him to spent his first night in the hall in his bassinet. The second night, he set up the bassinet in our room. I love to see him so tender.

Griffin is just a sweet little guy; so easy going, just like our other two. I was expecting a hard baby, since the first two were amazingly good, but Griffin is just the same. We've hardly ever heard him cry, although diaper changes make him really mad. He really looks more like my side of the family than the other boys do. I think he has my dad's nose and he has a cleft in his chin just like his grandma. He reminds me of my brothers when they were little, although touches of David come through too, those eyebrows are not mine! LOL.

First day on my own

David went to work today for the first time since Griffin was born. I was a little worried about doing it all by myself, but we had a pretty good day. Xander watched a lot more TV than he usually does, but I just had a baby 3 days ago, so I'm trying not to stress about it. It was a little crazy this morning, when all three boys wanted breakfast at the same time. I'm so glad David will be home in 10 minutes. I could use a nap.

Oh, and here's another Griffin photo. His billirubin (how do you spell that?) was a little high, so here he is, napping in the sun.

Griffin is here!!

I just thought I would share some of the details. I started having contractions on Sunday afternoon around 4:00, really timable 5 minutes apart, but not too painful. They started kind of hurting around 8:00 and we debated going to the hospital, because I was induced a week late with my first two, and I still had 6 days until my due date. Well, we finially went and I was still at a 1 and not effaced hardly at all. They had us walk around for an hour, and the contractions started being 3 minutes or so apart and really painful. She checked me again and there wasn't any change. So, they gave me a morphine shot and sent me home. I had contractions about 5 minutes apart for the rest of the night, and the morphine didn't help much. I hardly got any sleep and towards the morning I was in a lot of pain. We went back to the hopital around 6:30 when I couldn't stand it any more. They checked me and I was at a 5 and about 80% effaced! I really couldn't believe we were going to stay--at best I was hoping I still wasn't a 1. I got my epidural around 8:00 finially, and made pretty steady progress for there on out. They think he was posterior for most of the labor, because it went really slowly and because of the way his head was all bent out of shape. I believe it, because the contractions were really painful in my back before the epidural. I pushed him out in two contractions (after Maxton being 9 lbs 3 oz, Griffin was a piece of cake), and he had a little trouble with fluid in his lungs, but that cleared up pretty quickly. I didn't even tear, which is soooooo nice.

I'm feeling really great and glad to be home. Griffin David was 7 lbs 9 oz and 21.5 inches long. He's a pretty quiet little guy, I've barely even heard him cry. He looks a lot like his brothers, but more like my side of the family in the nose and mouth I think. He's pretty squashed and bruised though, but still dang cute.

Nesting and waiting

I'm really hoping that I will have this baby soon. I know it's crazy, considering it's still 10 days early and the other two were both induced a week late, but I can't help hoping that I will go on my own one of these times. Besides, the thought of 17 more days makes me a little ill. I cleaned like crazy on Monday, even getting down on my hands and knees (keep in mind I'm in my 9th month of pregnancy here, I don't bend down or tie my own shoes if I can avoid it) and scrubbed the kitchen floor. Then I cleaned the stove. Then I wiped down the walls, then I did all the dishes. We got a new washer and dryer (finally!! yay!!) and I kept that thing running all day, even folding the clothes and putting them away as they came out. I emptied the dishwasher. I vacuumed. I washed all the sheets and blankets. I cleaned all the clutter from our room. I mopped the bathroom floor, cleaned the toilet, wiped off the counters, cleaned the mirrors, washed the bathroom and kitchen rugs. Essentially cleaned the entire house (it hasn't all been clean all at once since we moved in). Anyway, I'm really hoping that means I will go into labor soon! I'm planning on taking a very long walk today. I have been having contractions nearly all the time, but nothing but little Braxton-Hicks, so we'll see.

Oh, and here are links to my most recently posted layouts.

I've been working on my layouts for the Fast and Fabulous book, and I've been having so much fun! I've got 3 of the 8 finished already, and I'm really pleased with them, which is something I don't say often. I'm hoping to get 10 done total so I can choose the best ones. I've got three more planned, so we'll see how it goes.

Xander's Birthday

I think I might have looked forward to Xander's birthday this year even more than he did. He's finally old enough to really get what was going on and to be excited about things. It was funny because on his birthday, he kept saying, "No, my birthday's formarrow (tomorrow)." By the end of the day though, he was getting that it was his birthday. He was so excited for presents. I made the mistake of letting him pick out a present from his Grandparents Henry 8 days before his birthday. He picked out a Thomas and Friends engine named Henry. Everyday he'd ask me where "my Henry" was. I just about went nuts. He was so excited when he opened it and that train has been everywhere since.

Here's some photos from the big day:

A Secret Toot (shhhhhh!)

So, in the scrapbooking publishing world, when you get a call from a magazine and you post about it on a message board, they call it "tooting" for tooting your own horn. Well, I have a really big toot that I'm so excited about. I'm not sure I'm supposed to go spreading it around, but since hardly anyone reads this thing, I think I'm safe. Scrapbook Trends is doing a new idea book called "Fast and Fabulous." Well, they're doing profiles on 5 scrapbookers, including bios and 8 layouts from each and they asked me if I'd be willing to be one of the 5. WILLING? Of course I'm willing! It's a pretty fast deadline, with everything due (including the 8 layouts) on the 14th of this month, but you're supposed to be able to create the layouts in 30 minutes or less. I've got one done and I'm started on the next one. I'm just so excited about this; it's really an honor to be asked.

And as a side note, Xander had a BM in the potty yesterday, even though we're not trying to train him! Maybe he will train himself. ;)
