New Camera

So, with my photography class, I needed to get a film camera. We've been looking around for a few weeks and finally decided to get the Canon Rebel K2. I think it's crazy that I bought a film SLR after already having a digital SLR, but we'll be able to share lenses between the two and I'm thinking I'll just always keep black and white in the film camera. I'm really loving my photography class, although last time in the darkroom wasn't as rewarding as the first time, since I way overexposed most of my photos. Ooops. I'm still trying to get the hang of this photography thing, although it's a huge accomplishment to get the THEORY behind everything. Finally.

Here's a photo of the boys I took yesterday. There have been some really beautiful rainbows lately, so we went out to watch it and I grabbed my camera for some photos. These were taken with my new lens on my digital rebel.

MMM Finalist?

I've got so many mixed emotions tonight about this. One one hand, I'm super excited my name is in the top 50 for the Memory Makers Master contest, but on the other hand, I'm horribly disappointed I didn't win. I really felt like my layouts were the best I was capable of, yet it still wasn't good enough. But on the other hand, I have so much on my plate right now, that it's a nice thing to not to have to worry about, but on the other hand, it would have been so darn fun. I can't really begrudge the people who won though, because they are mostly names I recognize and are extremely talented. I just feel like I won't ever be able to compete, and that's a sort of depressing feeling. At the moment, I'm not sure if I want to give up trying to be published at all or if I want to work my guts out and take the contest by storm next year. Ug. I think I will be in a better spot in a few days.

Anyway, I'm posting links to entry here, but shhhhh, just in case I'm not supposed to do that. The "Nutshell" layout is probably my favorite layout I've ever done. I'm not posting the last layout, the one we had to send in, just because I think there is a good chance it will be published by them, and basically they own it already anyway.

Darkroom work

So, yesterday I had so much fun in my photography class. Before I started the class, I was looking forward to everything except developing and printing. I just had no interest in how it was done. Well, yesterday we had our first time in the darkroom, and I'm IN LOVE! WOW, it was just so fun and rewarding and I can't wait to take some more photos and play again next Saturday. I was surprised at how time consuming it is, but I had a blast. It didn't hurt that my teacher really liked a few of my photos. Very cool, especially since I expected to ruin this roll. Here are the two I worked on yesterday.

Newest Layout

I only did a tiny bit of scrapping this weekend, but I love this page. I wasn't too crazy about the photos, although they are hilarious, but the lighting is horrible (but at least it hides most of the disaster area of the boys' room). Oh, and yes, those ARE Green Grass Stamps. ;)

I've been reading the Wheel of Time books by Robert Jordan, and really enjoying them. It's been a long time since I read any fantasy that wasn't Harry Potter. And there are 11 books, plus more to come out in the series, so it should keep me busy for a while, which is my main complaint with most books. David is reading them ahead of me, which is strange. Usually I'm the one reading ahead of everyone else, but since I wasn't interested until he started borrowing them from Jay and Melissa, he's a few books ahead of me.

School is pretty funny. I'm still not used to the idea of going to UVSC. I guess I'm sort of an intellectual snob. This sounds really horrible, but typifies my ideas about UVSC. In my graphic coputer applications class, we grade each other's quizzes. I graded one where the guy spelled quit q-i-u-t-e. I am not the best speller by any definition, but that is really bad. However, I'm learning a lot I didn't know before.
