Pumpkin Carving

Yesterday we finally got around to carving our pumpkins that we've had for weeks. We had so much fun. I got the lovely task of scooping out the insides. Joy. After that was done, we decided what to carve on the pumpkins. Maxton wanted Daddy to do a happy face (the pumpkin on the far left). I think it turned out more maniacally happy. It's a bit scary. Then they wanted me to do a scary face (the one on the right). I had a lot of fun with it. Xander especially loves his sharp teeth. At first, Xander wanted his and Maxton's pumpkin to be said, with "drop" cause it was crying, but Maxton wanted a happy face and Xander changed it to a silly face, so I carved theirs as a silly, happy face. I think it's my favorite of the three. It certainly has personality!

We are super excited to go trick-or-treating tonight! Can't WAIT! Posted by Picasa

Cute things from the kids before I forget.

The other day I was sewing Halloween costumes in the kitchen when I hear a plastic bag rustling. Now I know that I don't leave bags down, so I walk into the living room to see who it is. It's Griffin. He's sitting on top of the piano, rustling a bag of balls that David uses to play dodgeball with the young men at church. He is SUCH a climber. He's started climbing up on the kitchen chairs as well and he can get on and off our bed as well. Reminds me of the story my grandma told me once about my uncle Troy. He was a very busy kid and as a baby, he crawled out the back door and all the way up onto the seat of a tractor! I think my grandma said he was less than a year old. Thankfully, we don't have any tractors and I moved the stuff Griffin was using to climb onto the piano. I got pictures of him the other day, trying to climb up from the top of the couch onto the window sill in the living room! Luckily, he does not seem to have caught Maxton's klutziness, so he rarely gets hurt and I usually catch him before he does anything too serious.

Maxton has been pretty cute lately. He's such a hoot and says everything with the utmost seriousness. Then he grins. So, he tells me, "I want to help you make dinner, Mommy. I want to make shoclate ship cookies (chocolate chip cookies)." Hehe. I think he's a bit confused. First of all, if he wants to have chocolate chip cookies for dinner, he's not going to get very far with me. David is much more likely to give the children cookies or cake for breakfast before he leaves for work and while I'm trying to catch a few more seconds of sleep, especially now that I'm pregnant and exhausted!

Xander is driving me nutso with his letter sounds. We bought him a video for his birthday called "The Letter Factory" which he adores. It teaches the letter sounds and does a song to the tune of "Farmer in the Dell." Xander loves to go around singing it. He can even do it in order. He's also been practicing his writing his letters. I was so surprised a few weeks ago in church. He was going through the letters on his magna doodle. He got to K and I wrote my name down and showed it to him. He acted all mad and erased it right away. Well, a few minutes later, he shows me his 'doodle as he calls it, and there is my name in his little handwriting! I was amazed, especially because he doesn't know his lowercase too well. I'm sure with a little work, he'll be reading soon, although he gets impatient with me when I want to show him things.

Some very happy news!

I guess our goal is to have as many kids as possible in as short a time as possible. Yep, that's right, we're expecting again! I'm due June 1st, so that makes me about 8.5 weeks right now. I've been feeling ok, very tired and blah, but nothing too bad, except when I had the stomache flu at the same time we found out. I never been so sick in my entire life.

Griffin and the new one will be about 20 months apart, which is just about perfect. I'm also excited because two of David's sister-in-laws are pregnant right now, so there will be Henry cousins for the new one to play with. Not so much on my side, unless something drastically changes for Melissa. ;)

Of course, we are sort of hoping for a girl, although another boy would be pretty fun too. The thought of a girl actually scares me a little. I'm not so confident with the dolls and dresses! I'm sure I'd learn though. I really can't imagine never having a girl. We'll see though.

Griffin's Birthday yesterday

I'm looking at this photo I took yesterday and almost tearing up. He's getting so big. I don't know how they can grow as fast as they do. It seems like he should still be a tiny newborn and here he is, eating all table food and walking around like Frankenstein's monster, all wobbly with his arms stretched out!

Griffin is such a joy. He is so snuggly and he's knows what's going on. Recently, he's discovered the ceiling and he will point up at it and then babble to you, telling you all about it. He's such a screamer. I laugh when people tell me he's a mellow baby. He is, but when he wants something, it's ear-piercing screams, as loud as he can get. He's also a climber. He recently figured out how to get down off the couch, so that's a relief. He will open one of the bottom drawers in the kitchen and climb in, then he gets stuck and the scream starts again. The other day, he stood up in his high chair, so I thought, "Okay, time to start buckling him in." So I did. Turned around again, and he was standing up. He'd wiggled out of the belt! Hopefully tightening it will help with that little issue. He's so skinny. He's pudged out just a little, but not enough for his pants to stay on. He's always loosing his pants, poor thing. I guess I should invest in some safety pins.

Anyway, Happy Birthday, Little Man! We all adore you! Posted by Picasa

These are the kinds of questions that don't have answers.

I am hungry. Maxton is asleep. I'm planning on going with the kiddos to a local restaurant called The Training Table (affectionately referred to by Xander as the ones with the telephones. Each table has a phone and you use it to call in your order). I'm starting to get hungry. It's 5:30 and my belly is not happy. Maxton is sleeping. The kind of sleeping where he doesn't even twitch when you change Griffin's diaper in his room. And he got there because he was CRANKY. I even spanked him because I was so fed up with his behavior. I don't really use spanking as one of my parenting techniques. I try to remember President inclosing idea that he doesn't see a reason to ever hit a child. Yeah, didn't do so good with that. Anyway, I made him go to sleep. So, do I sit here hungry, waiting for him to wake up? Or do I risk the wrath of a cranky two-year-old? Somehow, I think the food is going to win soon.
