As a second grade teacher and a lover of books, this hits the nail right on the head. Children see by example that books are important. Hearing us read gives them exposure to rhythm, vocabulary, character development (when we do voices) and excitement to the story. Allowing kids to process the pictures is extremely important, and kids are NEVER to old to be read to. I used to read to my son when he was in middle school, and my husband still reads poetry to me and to the family. I started reading to my son when he was in the womb. The security of hearing trusted adults&#39; voices is key. My students love read aloud time at school, but those who thrive are those who also hear read aloud at home. Thanks for sharing. I&#39;m a big book fan and trying to instill that in my kids. It was interesting to hear just how important it is to read aloud to your kids. I&#39;ve got to be better at it than I am. Interesting part about book ownership. When I was blessed with my first grandchild, I decided that a new tradition needed to be born in our family. For Christmas, everyone gets a book, along with a handmade bookmark. They&#39;re wrapped individually, but put together with a big ribbon bow. You did a great job!...<br /><br />We try to be frugal at our house and watch our pennies, but books are the one thing that I don&#39;t worry about. We do visit the libary every weekend, but whenever we&#39;re at a bookstore I never say no. I just can&#39;t squash the enthusiasm my girls have for reading...<br /><br />ps.
