The Bee's Knees Digital Scrapbooking Kit Freebie

New to digital scrapbooking? Never downloaded a digital kit before? What in the world are .rar files anyway? Get your answers here: How to Unzip Files So You Can Digi Scrap.

Apparently, I've gone too long without designing a kit. Shaunte, over at This Too Shall Pass has progressed to harassment in order to get me to design another digital kit. This is good, because I apparently need harassment levels of persuasion in order to get me motivated to do anything after graduating. While harassment isn't supposed to make you feel desirable, I feel privileged to be Shaunte's object of harassment. If she progresses to stalker I will probably never be able to deflate my ego.

(If you don't read Shaunte's blog, you should. She's the type of funny that makes me realize that my attempts at humor are. . .how can I be kind? . . .underdeveloped. Perhaps if I had gone the extra step and had five children like her instead of four, I would have gone that extra bit of insane that would have imbued me with the truly funny stuff--not that I'm commenting on Shaunte. Really. Just on me. But, it's too late now to add any more crazy to our house. I must be content with envying Shaunte's comedic ability and forever wishing I had her finely-honed thrift-store shoe-finding abilities.)

I'm also hoping that this kit will be helpful to another friend who is in charge of an girl's camp this summer. Their theme is centered around bees, hence the theme of this kit. It just so happened to work perfectly with Aubriana's Halloween costume from this past year. Even if you don't have a need for a bee theme, there are plenty of unrelated papers in this kit--I'm quite fond of the clouds and the chevrons.

So, cheers all around for my first digital kit in ages! I enjoyed making it--I forgot how much fun it is to have an excuse to watch endless TV and dink around in Illustrator. I hope you like it!

Kit contains: 33 pattern papers, 1 set stitches, 1 overlay, 1 sheet honeycomb stickers, tags, 1 mask, 1 torn edge, 2 bee stickers, 2 flower stickers

iPod and Phone Skins--Blemish Free and So Pretty!

When I got my new phone a few months back, I was sort of disappointed in the color options.

I think it came in blue and red, except I could only get blue. That's not exactly the most exciting thing for someone as "high-brow artist" as I am (that's sarcasm right there--if they had a hot pink option, we wouldn't be having this conversation).

So, I got obsessed with making a skin for it. You can find several places online that make custom skins for electronic devices. I had quite the ordeal finding a place that carried the shape of my Gravity Smart. I'm not a picky phone person, so I didn't know my phone is sort of obscure. Or at least, I'm guessing it is, based on the fact that no one bothered offering skins for it.

Anyway, I found a place, and then decided to go for making a skin for my iPod Touch too.

Skins are basically huge stickers that you can peel off eventually. Basically, you use their software to design them (I uploaded some of my digital scrapbook papers for mine) and they print a big sticker for you and you stick it on your phone. It's all the fun of bumper stickers, but without devaluing a car.

I actually haven't put the front on my phone yet, because I keep thinking I'm going to put on a nice clear screen cover, and then put the skin over that, since it just goes around the screen. Hasn't happened yet.

Robot Love Digital Download Freebie

New to digital scrapbooking? Never downloaded a digital kit before? What in the world are .rar files anyway? Get your answers here: How to Unzip Files So You Can Digi Scrap. (Applies to any compressed files).

I don't know what to call these anymore.

I'm planning on printing this one out and hanging it someplace in my craft room at some point. I also think it would be adorable as a card or a gift tag or as a page accent or as part of a collage. So, maybe printable freebie would work?

Anyway, this is one I did all hand sketched and then scanned. I'm surprised I like it as much as I do. Usually I end up with some funky somethings when I hand draw. I love the hybrid freedom of it. It's so easy to correct mistakes on the computer and to add fun effects.

So, here's some robot love for you all. They are 8x10 (but can be easily cropped down) and there's a plain white one and a tan colored one in the compressed file. I hope you enjoy them! As always, I'd love to see if you do anything with them. Link up in the link party on Thursdays!

Scribbled Owls Digital Scrapbooking Kit Freebie

New to digital scrapbooking? Never downloaded a digital kit before? What in the world are .rar files anyway? Get your answers here: How to Unzip Files So You Can Digi Scrap. (Applies to any compressed files).

Yesterday, I stumbled upon a really addicting scribbler tool. Basically, you draw a basic line drawing freehand with your mouse and it scribbles on top of it, turning it way cooler looking than your original drawing. David and I kept running back and forth from the desktop and the laptop showing each other our creations. I started drawing owls. Lots and lots of owls. Of course, I couldn't leave it there, I had to turn it into some digital art.

And then, I put my owls on colorful squares. And then I printed it out and put spray adhesive on the back and put it on a piece of mat board. And then I started grabbing pieces and arranging it on a console table. It's not going to stay like this, because I stole one of my art pieces from the kitchen. And I want to eventually frame my owls, but not having a 12x12" frame on hand, this will have to do for now.

I hate to play favorites, but I think this one might be my favorite. I want to pinch his cheeks.

And then I put the owls on a bunch of colors, and stuck them in a folder, with some png images too, so if you want they can end up on your scrapbook pages or cards or whatever.

I had planned to skip this week's download, but sometimes you find something cool and it takes on a life of its own. And you also get a lot of blisters from using your mouse too much.

Both Xander and Maxton both learned to ride their bikes this spring.

Sheesh. I feel like a bit of a bad mom, not helping them before this. I guess one thing about delaying these types of things is that when they are ready, they learn FAST. I guess 6 and 7 isn't that late, but I remember learning before kindergarten.

My mom helped Max a little last fall, but he didn't get the hang of it all the way. He could go a few feet. Then, when we moved, we suddenly had a lot of (safe) concrete to practice on. A few tips while Natalie was visiting and suddenly Maxton is riding around. I go out a few days later and Xander is riding all around.

Anyway, that is clearly the inspiration for this kit. When I get a second, I'm going to pop in some of the pictures I have of Max and write up some new journaling.

Pretty Purse Digital Scrapbooking Kit Freebie

New to digital scrapbooking? Never downloaded a digital kit before? What in the world are .rar files anyway? Get your answers here: How to Unzip Files So You Can Digi Scrap. (Also applies to any compressed files).

Backstory on this kit is pretty simple. Go here to see the cake I made for Aubrey's 3rd birthday.

Yep, pretty simple.

Aubrey has taken to bringing her purse along when we go places. She has her coin purse in it and a toy cell phone. She pretends to talk to people and tells us often, "Be quiet. I'm on the phone." I can't imagine where she might have heard that one.

This kit is going to come in handy, I'm thinking.

I still want to do a layout of the pictures of the cake, but I couldn't resist Aubrey's cute smile, so I had to do these first.

Spring Rain Digital Scrapbooking Kit Freebie

New to digital scrapbooking? Never downloaded a digital kit before? What in the world are .rar files anyway? Get your answers here: How to Unzip Files So You Can Digi Scrap.

We had the rainiest spring.

I'm not a fan of winter. Once March 21st is here, I'm wanting warm weather and at least a little sunshine. Instead, we got cold and wet.

You can see in the layout, it's May 18th and Aubrey needs a winter coat. For crying out loud, seriously!

Anyway, we did have the unique (for Utah's near desert climate) opportunity to take some pictures with umbrellas. This was my favorite of Aubrey:
So, of course, I created this kit so I could make a cute layout with it:

A Hoot and A 1/2 Digital Scrapbook Kit Freebie

New to digital scrapbooking? Never downloaded a digital kit before? What in the world are .rar files anyway? Get your answers here: How to Unzip Files So You Can Digi Scrap.

I think I might have missed the owl trend craze by a little bit. I've heard that roosters are the new owl (although that is almost a year old). I think that is crazy talk. I love owls. Chickens scare me. Hopefully, we won't move onto ducks/geese from here. If we do, I will be the trendiest person ever, because my thrift store is full of ceramic ducks of all shapes and sizes, and I can totally do that for nearly nothing.

Anyway, considering I still like owls, I ignored the trend and designed this kit. I'm cool challenged, so I will continue to like owls.

This layout is my nephew, Miles, with two of my little guys. Miles is a hoot. He's freakin' hilarious, even though he doesn't really talk much and when he does, they are all one syllables and sound exactly the same. Only my sister has the code cracking skills necessary to understand him. Doesn't matter. He's got a glint in his eye that always makes me grin right back. It's like I don't even have a choice.

Printable Cards #1 Digital Scrapbook Freebie

New to digital scrapbooking? Never downloaded a digital kit before? What in the world are .rar files anyway? Get your answers here: How to Unzip Files So You Can Digi Scrap.

I recently found myself needing a card. I have a collection of cards I've made over the years, but I just didn't have the right one. I'm not a huge cardmaker (the ones I do have were usually design team assignments, I almost never choose to do cards on my own), so I thought I'd do a quick printable this week, with two cards per page. They are super easy, just print on an 8.5X11" sheet of cardstock, cut apart, fold and you're done!

Up & Away Hot Air Balloons Digital Scrapbook Kit Freebie

New to digital scrapbooking? Never downloaded a digital kit before? What in the world are .rar files anyway? Get your answers here: How to Unzip Files So You Can Digi Scrap.

This week spring is in the air in Utah, thank goodness (or at least it was when I wrote this. Now it's been snowing). I hate winter. This has put me in the mood for bright colors, patterns and pretty stuff. I saw a hot air balloon on a card and just needed to do this kit.

I picked a picture of my boys being silly in the backyard for the layout. It was kind of being overwhelmed with color, so I thought I'd turn the photo black and white. While I was trying to do that in my layout, it turned the background black and white and I actually loved the pops of color. It really put the focus back on the photo and those adorable hot air balloons.

Kit Contents: 12 Pattern Papers, 1 Set Hot Air Balloon Stickers, 3 Tags, Eyelets, 2 Labels

Easter Egg Hunt Digital Scrapbook Kit Freebie

New to digital scrapbooking? Never downloaded a digital kit before? What in the world are .rar files anyway? Get your answers here: How to Unzip Files So You Can Digi Scrap.

You know, I don't like scrapbooking layouts with set themes. I'm not a theme kind of girl. Probably because they tend to be repetitive. I mean, Christmas comes every year, so does Independence Day, plus all the other holidays, and then on top of that, you have birthdays, all of which provide photos that are basically interchangeable. That's not to say I don't think they are important days. I do. I think traditions and rituals especially in family life are enormously important. It's just that they are repetitive.

So, I was surprised this year when I was excited to design an Easter kit. I knew we were going to my dad's side of the family for their annual Easter egg hunt, so I started this paper about a week before that. It wasn't until I got the photos in front of me that it really started to gel, and I think this is one of my favorite kits ever. Aside from these papers (which aren't in the thumb, you couldn't see anything but the top), the rest aren't overtly Easter and would be perfect for other themes.

Anyway, I was pretty excited about the pictures I took, especially this one of Aubriana and my nephew, Miles. I knew it was going to be the star of my layout.

Which it was:

Kit Contents: 15 Pattern Papers, 1 Overlay, 3 Bunny Masks, 2 Styles of Grass Masks (that just makes me laugh), 3 Egg Masks, 1 Butterfly Mask, 3 Labels, 1 Journaling Spot, 1 Set Stitches

As a bonus for this kit, I made my layout into a two page, 12x12 quick page (it's a .psd file), that you can easily slip your pictures into--you know, in case scrapbooking the same holidays over and over makes you a little crazy too. And, there's room for 10 shots; a must if you are a click-a-holic, like me.

I made sure that the title was able to be edited, in case you want to change it. If you want to leave it how it is, you need to make sure you have Franklin Gothic and Titillium on your computer (again, I can't verify these fonts are free from viruses--use caution). I used a font called Fish Face for the "egg," but I actually couldn't find Fish Face even with my mad google skills, so I also rasterized one layer and left one the font, just delete the one you don't want.

Enjoy! I hope you have a fabulous Easter!

Quick Pages Set 1 Digital Scrapbooking Freebie

New to digital scrapbooking? Never downloaded a digital kit before? What in the world are .rar files anyway? Get your answers here: How to Unzip Files So You Can Digi Scrap.

I do have a new kit in the works, but I didn't have enough time to get one finished this week, so I'm trying something new. I whipped up some quick pages based on a few of my green/pink kits.

Basically, you are downloading a psd file for Photoshop, which you can then put your own photos and journaling on, and voila! instant page.

One thing to note is that fonts vary across computers. I used some free downloadable fonts on my pages, but you can use the standard fonts that come with your computer. A list of fonts I used on each quick page is at the bottom. If you want to use the same fonts I used, check to see if you have them on your computer. If you don't, you can download them, install them and they will be ready to use in Photoshop. If you want to change the font, open up the file and when it asks if you want to update, say yes. It will substitute a font on your computer for the unknown font, and you can change it from there. I include a link to the font when I can, but please note that I can not verify that these downloads are clean and free from viruses. Always download fonts with extreme caution.

Fonts Used:
Wrapped in Love: Arial, Impact and Century Gothic
The BreeBree: Chunk Five, Times New Roman
Juicy Strawberries: Arial

The Xander Digital Scrapbooking Kit Freebie

New to digital scrapbooking? Never downloaded a digital kit before? What in the world are .rar files anyway? Get your answers here: How to Unzip Files So You Can Digi Scrap.

Awww, it's the last in my four part series. Maybe I need to keep going with The Kara and The David, because I had a lot of fun designing these kits for my kids.

This week has two inspirations. A while ago on Project Runway, Amy designed these pants:

Now, I'm not saying I like these pants or that I would like to own these pants or that these pants should exist in a world where you can buy perfectly sane black pants that don't do that fluttering thing, enlarge the look of your butt and turn you into a strange mermaid from the waist down, but I do like the colors together and the pattern was really inspiring.

The judges main criticism was that they were a weird color combination. Now, I can see criticizing the weird petals and too many colors, but the color scheme is your basic complimentary colors. Blue and orange are across the color wheel. This makes me wonder about the judges. Have they never studied color theory? Because I guarantee that blue/orange is one of the first ones you learn.

On the other hand, isn't that petal skirt on the girl so cute!?! I must make one for Aubrey, ASAP.

The other inspiration would be some vintage fabric, and I could throw Xander in there, for being totally adorable and sharp as a lawn mower (and nearly as loud).

I love the slightly retro feel of these papers. The blue and orange really pop. And here is my cutie, Xander. He's one of the smartest kids you will ever meet and he's super affectionate too. I did this page about how he is starting to read chapter books on his own (he's in 1st grade). I don't get it, but he really likes non-fiction. I keep thinking he'll like fantasy, but he doesn't. Of course, his favorite series is the Magic Treehouse series, because those are packed with non-fiction type information. I mean, I love some types of non-fiction, but they generally have some sort of meaningful or deeply interesting story, while Xander just wants to memorize the facts.

Kit Contents: 5 Pattern Papers, 2 Background Papers, 1 Overlay, 1 Journaling Block

We've Moved (House) Digital Scrapbooking Kit Freebie

New to digital scrapbooking? Never downloaded a digital kit before? What in the world are .rar files anyway? Get your answers here: How to Unzip Files So You Can Digi Scrap.

We are in the process of buying our first house, which is so utterly thrilling and exciting. If everything goes smoothly, we will be moving soon and I will be doing a lot of decorating, which will probably pop up on the blog from time to time.

In other house-y type things, I've been admiring some house block quilts lately. I love the funky and fun ones. This one is so cute! Love the fun fabrics in this one! And the spooky Halloween houses in this one (also a tutorial, if you want to learn to piece these. I'm thinking I might have another project on my list).

So, put those together and I have the kit this week. I loved the idea of sending out new address post cards, so I designed one (with a 5X7 aspect ratio, but you can easily crop it down to fit on a smaller card). To get the look I wanted, I had to design a bunch of papers, so those are included here too. I'm very tempted to print out the big one on 12x12 paper and frame it, but I'm restraining myself until I know it will really go with my overall vision for the house's decor. I love the rest of the patterns and I might be doing a full-fledged layout with some of them soon (wouldn't they be perfect for family photos?)

The Griffin Digital Scrapbook Kit Freebie

New to digital scrapbooking? Never downloaded a digital kit before? What in the world are .rar files anyway? Get your answers here: How to Unzip Files So You Can Digi Scrap.

Last week things were just too crazy to get a kit up. I might have finished earlier if I didn't get completely stumped on the journaling. Sometimes I wonder if I should just offer the kit without the layout, because it's what takes me the most time by far, but then, I think that it's easier to see how it might be used if I do a layout, plus, it's makes me do a layout every once in a while. My kids have been looking through their scrapbooks lately and it's a reminder to me of how important this is. Sometimes I get caught up in the creativity of it and the fun of designing it all and I forget why I do this in the first place.

Anyway, I finally got through my mental block and wrote Griffin a letter, which I think turned out beautifully. I seriously cannot believe the type of conversations we have. He asks the most interesting and intelligent questions. Right now as I'm writing, we are having a discussion about what happens if you cut off various parts of your body--sometimes it can get quite gruesome--but he wants to know if you can live if you cut off your head (I explained what the brain does), then he wanted to know if you could live if you cut off your arm, (so I explained that yes, but you could loose a lot of blood if that happened), then he wanted to know how you could cut bones (I told him doctors use saws when they do surgery), then he wanted to know if you could live if your ear was cut off (yes, but it might make it harder to hear). Then he asked, "What about the blood?" so I had to explain about coagulation and how blood clots and major arteries, then he asked if everywhere in your body has bone, so then I explained about cartilage. This is going to be great for my diet. I'm sure I won't want to eat for at least six hours after that conversation. He's either going to be a doctor or an axe murderer.

Anyway, here's the layout:

Kit Contents: 7 Pattern Papers, 3 Colors of Brads, 1 Overlay, 1 Paper Mask, 3 Thought Bubble Stickers

This week I did the Aubriana version of my four kit series, which a kit for each of my children. I love working with girl patterns and colors! Aubrey is a girly girl, but she has a streak of the tomboy, because of her four older brothers (for instance, she talks about Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Darth Vader quite often). This kits definitely celebrates her girly side.

A Million Times a Million (Valentine's Day) Digital Scrapbooking Kit Freebie

New to digital scrapbooking? Never downloaded a digital kit before? What in the world are .rar files anyway? Get your answers here: How to Unzip Files So You Can Digi Scrap.

Woah. Valentine's Day sneaked up on me. Who knew love could be so devious? I am not a good wife when it comes to Valentine's Day. Usually, David spoils me rotten (like it's my birthday or something), while I feel bad that I didn't put as much time and effort into it.

But not this year. This year I am prepared. No just tucking a sweet letter into an envelope and letting David pick out his own presents. This year, I have designed a kit specifically to make him a card with it. I think it can be a bit hard to buy your husband a Valentine's Day card, unless you go with a funny one; but then, I don't have all that much experience buying them (when I've given a card in the past, it was usually one I made and already had on hand). Anyway, I like this kit because it's masculine and bold, but still fits in with the whole vibe of Valentine's Day.

There is a printable in the kit too, which looks just like my card up there. You can print it out, trim it down and slap it on a card and call it done. A tip I would give is find an envelope first, then print it the right size for the envelope. I can't tell you how many times I've had a card and not a single envelope to fit it.

When I design a kit, I normally do whatever I feel like doing, then find photos that will work with the kit I just created. This time, I went backwards, choosing the photos first (of course, the photos of the hat I just knit for Max, because I can't resist his dimple), then creating the kit from the photo. I really enjoyed creating this way, and I think I will do a kit for each of my children. I could not think of a name for this kit, so I finally came down to calling it "The Max," which fits it nicely and neatly takes care of thinking of names for the rest of the series. If you haven't noticed, titles are not a strength of mine.

Rejoice (Christmas) Digital Scrapbooking Kit Freebie

New to digital scrapbooking? Never downloaded a digital kit before? What in the world are .rar files anyway? Get your answers here: How to Unzip Files So You Can Digi Scrap.

Wow, it doesn't feel right to be doing fall leaves last week and then Christmas this week, but I know Christmas will be here before I'm ready. We are nearly done with our Christmas shopping. I have a few projects still to do, but I'm not feeling the least bit stressed yet.

This layout is from Christmas morning pictures from last year. It was a special Christmas, because it was my Great-Grandma Jensen's last Christmas before she passed. I didn't realize that before making this layout. It will be sad not to trek up to Ogden this year to see her. I can't remember the last Christmas that we didn't make the trip.

I think I'm getting better at the whole digital layout thing. Making these kits has really forced me to practice. Oh, and I was going to mention that some of the patterns were inspired by vintage Christmas wrapping paper.

This is one I started a long time ago, which I just finished up this morning, just in time for Thanksgiving. The photos on the layouts are ones I took at our local park two years ago. I can't believe how much my kids have grown, especially my baby.

I've definitely gotten better at the whole digital distressing thing. I still feel like I'm not great at it, but it was fun to play with. I hope you enjoy it!
